Catherine the Great was born in 1729 to a poor Prussian prince but of prominent families, and educated at home. The Empress of Russia arranged the marriage between Catherine and her second cousin Peter in a bid to strengthen the Russian monarchy’s alliances. Married at 16, Catherine worked hard to educate herself and endear herself to the Queen. Seventeen years into her marriage, Peter became the tsar. She disliked her unpopular husband and, in his absence, took control of Russia in 1762. (82 words)

Companies use billboard advertisements placed along city streets and highways to target drivers. They use catchy, colourful visuals with easy-to-read slogans to increase visibility. Advertisers take advantage of the fact that drivers on long drives need a distraction and can’t skip, throw or turn off billboard advertisements. Cities with high population densities too, have huge billboards that some say ruin the aesthetic of the environment. In both 1911 and 1981, courts ruled that billboards were unsightly and ruined the aesthetic. (80 words)
